White paper | Contactless Power and Data Transmission with NearFi Technology
Rail vehicles As part of retrofit projects, rail vehicles are increasingly being equipped with Ethernet-based systems for passenger information and entertainment. Existing mechanical couplings often do not provide enough contacts for additional data connections, and replacing them is not economically feasible. In such applications, NearFi enables contactless, broadband data transmission across an air gap.
NearFi couplers, compactly integrated above the coupling, provide a robust, low-wear, bidirectional Ethernet connection between coupled units – even in a redundant configuration and regardless of the coupling direction. This efficiently enables seamless, future-viable vehicle connectivity.

Wind turbine generators Wind turbines place high demands on the reliable transmission of power and data between rotating and stationary components. Conventional slip ring systems are prone to wear, require frequent maintenance, and have limitations in terms of data rate and long-term stability. NearFi enables contactless, latency-free real-time Ethernet communication across the rotating drive train and replaces mechanical transmission components.
At the same time, inductive power transmission enables an electrically isolated power supply to the sensors in the rotor blades. This provides a robust, low-maintenance solution that supports continuous condition monitoring and safe plant control even under extreme environmental conditions.
