Normative and regulatory classification

60 GHz wireless applications: status of standardization activities For wireless applications in the license-exempt 60 GHz band( 57 to 64 GHz), proof of efficient spectrum use is required under the Radio Equipment Directive( RED). Until now, conformity assessment has been based primarily on the harmonized ETSI standard EN 305 550, which defines general requirements and test procedures for wireless systems operating in the millimeter band from 40 to 260 GHz.
With the introduction of ETSI EN 305 550-5, the series of standards was expanded to include a specific part for Ultra-Short-Range Communication
( USRC) in the 57 to 64 GHz frequency range. The standard addresses the specific characteristics of near-field communication systems in the 60 GHz band much more precisely than the previous general standard.
For manufacturers of 60 GHz systems, ETSI EN 305 550-5, initiated by Phoenix Contact, is the key technical framework for evaluating spectrum usage. Following its publication by ETSI, the standard was submitted to the European Commission for harmonization and serves as the basis for ongoing standardization and regulatory activities.

Cybersecurity classification

Physically reduced and inherently robust data transmission NearFi uses locally confined near-field transmission over short distances, which reduces radiation and potential targets for attack. Communication takes place exclusively at the physical layer, without
IP addressing, identities, or protocol mechanisms. This eliminates the need for network management and typical attack vectors. The result is an inherently robust, configuration-free, and greatly simplified transport layer.
Regulatory Classification
• RED( 2014 / 53 / EU) / Delegated Act( EU) 2022 / 30: Outside the scope of application due to a lack of IP connectivity → no requirements under Article 3.3( d),( e),( f).
• Cyber Resilience Act( CRA): Classified as a common product( Class 0), as it is a purely physical transmission medium without network-enabled functions. The evaluation is performed at the system level.
• NIST: Not applicable, as there are no networked IT functions, cryptography, or identity mechanisms.
• IEC 62443: Relevance is limited to development processes( e. g., IEC 62443-4-1). The system- or network-related components do not apply, due to a lack of network connectivity.
