The 60 GHz band for contactless real-time communication
Potential of the 60 GHz frequency band With up to 7 GHz of available bandwidth, the 60 GHz band offers ideal conditions for transmitting large amounts of data. The high spectral capacity supports demanding real-time applications through low latency. In addition, interference between neighboring systems is reduced, and frequencies are used efficiently.
Transmission through non-metallic materials
( up to 10 mm). The coupling is resistant to offset and relative motion within the specified tolerances.
Contactless real-time Ethernet transmission
System roles: base coupler and remote coupler At least two devices are required for operation: a base coupler and a remote coupler. A base coupler can be combined with multiple remote couplers in certain applications. A built-in alignment aid assists with installation and simplifies commissioning.
Near field vs. far field – implications for coexistence and interference In contrast to far-field communication, near-field transmission is physically confined to a locally limited coupling range. The short spatial range reduces the likelihood of unintended coupling with neighboring systems, thereby supporting coexisting installations in industrial environments.
Transmission principle in the 60 GHz near field NearFi enables contactless transmission of Ethernet data across defined air gaps as well as through non-metallic materials such as plastic, glass, or wood.
For pure data paths, larger air gaps( up to 100 mm) are possible. For combined data / power applications, smaller, defined coupling distances are typical
