BEHIND THE SCENES
Black belt for Brazil
Assertive new boss for Phoenix Contact in São Paulo
Cesar Almeida is the name of the new
General Manager of Phoenix Contact in
the South American emerging market.
Before he took over the management
of the Brazilian branch in São Paulo, the
graduate electrical engineer was active in
management at well-known international
companies such as Siemens, Johnson
Controls, and Honeywell.
His multilingualism – Almeida speaks
Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, and English
– certainly helps the father of three in his
challenging position, as does his trained
eye for costs and profits.
The top manager balances out his
stressful job through running, weightlifting,
and submission wrestling, a variation of
the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu martial art, in which
he has a black belt.

New GM for Finland
Petri Viinikka has international
experience and a flair for wood
Phoenix Contact enjoys a very good reputation
in the country in the north of Scandinavia as an
innovative manufacturer and reliable employer.
Because of this, we were also able to attract the
new General Manager for Finland.
Petri Viinikka is an internationally
experienced top manager who has already
completed international assignments in
Russia, Germany, and Austria as part of his
duties. The sales professional has worked for
such well-known companies as Tetra-Pak, SCA
Hygiene Products GmbH, and Outotec Oyj,
among others, and most recently as Managing
Director for a supplier in the Finnish process
industry.
When time permits, the 54-year-old family
man, who lives in the Helsinki region, keeps
himself in shape with CrossFit training. Or he
pursues his passion for wood, from tree felling
to handicraft activities at his “summer house” –
typical for the inhabitants of Suomi…

3D printing prevents unnecessary surface contact
Necessity is the mother of invention. At the Phoenix Contact
subsidiary Protiq, the experts for additive manufacturing
technologies, the focus has shifted to the topic of daily hygiene
in handling the door handle. Toilets, entrances, and open-plan
offices – how do you avoid contacting the surfaces around you
that have been touched a thousand times?
“Several colleagues came up with these ideas at the same
time. Similar ideas had already been spread on the Internet,
and so we spontaneously constructed the first samples and
printed them overnight. This was in the last week of March,” says
Clemens Boesen, Production Manager at Protiq.
Different versions of the problem solvers were created from
polyamide 12, all of which are suitable for cheating the virusspreading
door handle. And now they are not only available for
the needs of Phoenix Contact, but can also be ordered directly.
